What an account adds

About the free check
Which lists does the free check screen against?
The UK Sanctions List, the US OFAC SDN list and the EU consolidated list. The free check runs against the same currently published editions of those lists that a paid check uses — there is no reduced dataset behind the free version.
Do I have to screen tenants, and since when?
Since 14 May 2025 UK letting agents must screen all landlords, tenants and guarantors against the UK sanctions list, at any rent level, and must report suspected designated persons to OFSI. Financial sanctions bind every person in the UK, so there is no rent threshold below which the duty disappears.
Why does the free check not show me the matched name?
The free check is a summary: the result category, the score, how many possible matches there were and which lists they came from. Knowing whether you need to look is the useful free answer. Which designation matched, why it scored, and a dated certificate proving what you screened are part of an account.
Why do you ask for my email address?
The check runs when you press the button and the summary appears on the page straight away. We email the same summary so you have it in writing, and we send one follow-up explaining what an account adds. We do not email you again unless you create an account.
How is one check per day enforced, and what do you store?
A salted hash of your IP address and a device fingerprint — a hash of your browser, language, time zone and screen size. Your raw IP address is never stored. If you need more than one check, an account starts with 5 free checks and no card.
Is a free check enough to satisfy my obligations?
No, and not because of the screening: the free check keeps no record for you. Compliance turns on being able to show that you screened each landlord, tenant and guarantor, against which list editions, and what you concluded about anything the search returned. SafeLet is a screening aid, not legal advice, and every possible match needs a human to review it.
